The Paleo Diet is a strict diet that is also referred to as the caveman diet. Basically, the diet consists of things that if the caveman did not eat it, neither do you. Your main focus in this diet is anything you can hunt or gather. This means meat, fish, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and vegetables.

This is the basics of the diet however, there are many benefits and more to it than if the caveman did not eat it neither do you.

What is the Paleo Diet?

This diet helps you stop counting calories and making sure your portions are perfect, instead you are looking at healthier foods so you can have a healthier body. The Paleo Diet can help you lose weight and get in shape as well. Many people use this diet to rid that extra fat and build muscle.

Now you are probably thinking, not another diet. I hate those words. Well, this is not necessarily a diet, it is more of what is good for you and did not exist back in the caveman era where they hunted and gathered their food.

No sugary foods, no cereals, and nothing basically that was bad for you.

The Human Body and the Paleo Diet

The average homo sapien back in that era was fit, agile, muscular, athletic whereas today the average homo sapiens is overweight, stressed-out, unhappy, sleep deprived, and has many diseases.

So what exactly happened to get humans to this point? Farming happened. Hunter-gatherers turned into farmers. Now, this is great because so many different things have happened since people have made communities and new inventions, except our bodies never changed the way our lifestyle did.

Our bodies never really adapted to the many grains and sugars that humans are now consuming in large amounts. This caused humans to start gaining weight.

The body is not made to consume large amounts of grains and sugars, because it was used to meat and vegetables. With humans now at an astonishing rate of obesity with numbers as high as 33% and 66% are overweight.

Many people start to consider the Paleo Diet to help them lose weight and make their bodies happy.

No Grains

The Paleo Diet does not consist of grains because there were no grains which mean our body is not used to the large consumption of them. When grains enter the body they are carbohydrates which turn into sugars, and for many people, then turn into fat.

Which is no good.

Sugar is out of the diet as well. No candies, sodas, or cake. This is because the only sugar you will be getting is natural sugar from fruit. Sugar can cause a huge problem in your body if the energy created by sugar is not used immediately. It is turned into fat.

Processed foods are also out of the picture. Anything pre-packaged, processed, pre-made is out of the picture on this diet.

Goodbye Carbohydrates

No carbohydrates, sugars, or processed foods while on this diet. So where do you get your energy from? Well, the answer is simple. The human body was originally designed to run on a low carbohydrate system. When there is an absence of carbohydrates the body actually turns to the stored fat in your body and starts using the fat as your energy source and this is known as ketogenesis.

Basically, without carbohydrates as a fuel source, your body will attack the fat and you will have more energy while burning fat. You will lose weight easily. Not only will you lose weight you will feel better, less groggy and tired, and you will be able to be a healthier person.

Your body fat percentage will go down, you will have a decreased fat storage, and you will look and feel great. Not only do you look great but you can eat as much as you want until you are full because your body will run on this fat to make your energy.

You will be losing weight and gaining confidence at the same time.

Can You Intake Dairy on the Paleo Diet?

Dairy is a tricky subject. This seems to be a divide in the Paleo Diet community. This is because the human race is the only animal that drinks milk or consumes dairy after infancy. Studies show that some adaptations to milk have been made over the years in the body, but still some people are lactose intolerant.

Dairy is a touchy subject for the Paleo Diet because no one is really sure if it good or bad. Most people tend to stay away from dairy.

Not only do you get the benefits of losing weight and being generally healthy, the Paleo Diet has proven to reverse many diseases. It is a very healthy diet and it is proven to help with weight loss, overall health, and will have you more alert than ever.

Paleo Diet and Diabetes

When on the Paleo Diet, a diabetic can expect regulated sugar levels, weight loss, and more energy. You will not be consuming carbohydrates and sugars which will make you tired and groggy but instead, your fat will be burned causing alertness and weight loss. This will mean a healthier lifestyle for you.

You will not have to worry about being overweight or not eating enough because this diet allows a lot of food just the right foods.

Life Insurance and the Paleo Diet

With all of the complications that can arise from living with diabetes, the Paleo Diet may be a way to help you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Everyone with diabetes will have different results, to this type of diet.

This could not only lead to helping to prevent complications, but can also go a long way when applying for certain things, such as life insurance as a diabetic. Life insurance companies tend to provide much higher rates to diabetics, even life insurance for type 2 diabetics, than they do people who are considered to be healthy.

If you choose to apply for a life insurance policy, either term life or whole life, that requires a review of medical records, companies will be looking for things such as your Diet. If your records show that you are taking your diet seriously, and that your body and control of Diabetes is responding well to the diet, your offers may come back 10% to 20% better, compared to other people with diabetes.

Don’t let all of this be confusing. That’s why we are here! Diabetes 365 was created to help the diabetes community, with their Life Insurance needs! We can get an idea of your overall health, financial needs, and we will help you determine what plans, and insurance companies, may be best for your situation.

Let’s look at the following example:

For a Male, looking into Type 1 Diabetes life insurance:

+ Male, age 40, non tobacco user. Type 1 Diabetes onset at age 15. A1C 6.9, exercises regularly, and watches diet, and body responding to the Paleo Diet. He is 5’9” 150 lbs.

A 20 year $100,000 term life insurance policy would be about $380.00 annually

We will now compare this to the same type of individual, who may does not watch his diet, maybe not exercise as often, and weight is a little off.

+ Male, age 40, non tobacco user. Type 1 Diabetes onset at age 15, A1C 7.5, not really watching diet and doesn’t have a dedicated exercise program. He is 5’9” and 170 lbs.

A 20 year $100,000 term life insurance policy would be about $500.00 annually.

As you can tell rates are slightly higher. Over a 20 year period, this leads to thousands more paid into life insurance premiums.

There are many ways to obtain affordable diabetic life insurance and being as healthy as you possibly can even with diabetes is a great way to do that. Underwriters may look at your height, weight, BMI, medical history and other factors that can be helped by living on the Paleo Diet. Better your overall health, height, weight, the better your premiums will be!

You can also opt for a non-medical exam life insurance policy as a diabetic. People who may benefit from a policy that doesn’t require blood/urine exam, or review of medical records, are the diabetics who may not have the best control of their Diabetes, or are not at an ideal Height/Weight. Certain diabetic life insurance companies won’t ask about A1C history. IF your A1C is not where it needs to be, these life insurance policies may be your only option for coverage.
